NY SHIELD Act

The New York SHIELD Act (Stop Hacks and Improve Electronic Data Security Act) is a data privacy law in the state of New York, which went into effect on March 21, 2020.

The law requires businesses that handle the private information of New York residents to implement reasonable data security measures and to notify affected individuals and regulatory authorities in the event of a data breach.

The law applies to all businesses that have customers in New York, even if the business is not located in the state.
